Dining Options

Lunch is on your own. Attendees are welcome to visit Appalachian Station next door in the Lane University Center for lunch or refreshments.

For those who register for both workshops, a two-hour break has been provided to allow for lunch on or off-campus.

American Factfinder

The Lewis J. Ort Library is pleased to present a training session on American FactFinder presented by Ms. Nesreen Khashan, Census Bureau Data Dissemination Specialist. 

 

What is American FactFinder?

American FactFinder provides access to data about   the United States. The data in American FactFinder   come from several censuses and surveys.

Census Bureau Housing and Demographics Statistics Introduction

Whether you're studying nursing, urban planning, business or economics, understanding how to use and interpret statistics will be increasingly relevant to your field..

The U.S. Census Bureau is the leading source of quality, timely and relevant information about our nation’s people and economy. The Census Bureau releases statistics annually about your community for more than 69 indicators. Its website provides access to this data using several online tools.

During this three-hour introductory course, you’ll be able to:

Workshop #2

Census Bureau Statistics—Demographics and Economic Programs for Intermediate Users

If you’re already using American FactFinder, QuickFacts and other data-access tools to get demographic and housing statistics from census.gov, this course will help you get beyond the basics.

During this three-hour Intermediate Course, you’ll be able to:

  • Use Economic and Demographic programs from the Census Bureau to research a marketing plan for a small business
  • Use American FactFinder to create maps with multiple levels of data and geographic labels represented
  • Understand the different Topics filters in American FactFinder, to help your searches become more productive and efficient.
  • Learn about some of the newest data-access tool additions on census.gov, including Census Explorer and the Census Flows Mapper
  • Learn more about how to use American FactFinder and the CenStats databases to access economic data from the Economic Census, Business Patterns, Nonemployer Statistics and County Building Permits

 

Audience: This program is recommended for existing to intermediate users who want to improve their proficiency of American FactFinder
