Borrowing FSU Materials from the Lewis J. Ort Library:
Students, faculty, and staff must use their FSU ID cards (issued by ID Services in Chesapeake Hall) to borrow materials from the Lewis J. Ort Library, and from any of the libraries within the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI).
Borrowers are responsible for the materials they check out. For your protection, do not allow others to use your ID or gain access to your Library ID number.
Residents of Maryland over eighteen years of age may check out circulating materials from the Ort Library by obtaining a Community Borrower card. A photo ID and proof of a permanent address are required.
Borrowed materials are due on the date stamped on the due date slip inserted in the item. Not all libraries in the consortium use the due date slip system.
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to keep track of their due dates in the My Account feature of catalogusmai.
a. For undergraduate students and community borrowers, most items circulate for a period of 28 days.
b. Faculty, staff, and graduate students receive a semester long due date for most FSU circulating items.
c. DVD’s and VHS tapes circulate for 7 days.
Holds or recalls may be placed on charged FSU items.
The system will generate a new due date up to 14 days from the date the recall was placed. Patrons will receive notification of the recall and new due date through via email or through the US mail service, depending on individual account settings.
Borrowing Materials From Other USMAI Libraries' Circulating Collections:
Requests to borrow books from other USMAI libraries may be placed directly by the user in catalogUSMAI, the online catalog; or by seeking assistance from staff at any USMAI library Circulation Desk.
A current FSU ID card is necessary and the user must be registered in the Circulation system with an up-to-date record.
Materials borrowed from these member institutions are governed by the policies and procedures of the libraries that own them, and borrowing privileges may vary.
Not all libraries in the consortium use the due date slip system.
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to keep track of their due dates in the My Account feature of catalogUSMAI.
