Overdue Fines & Lost Books

Overdue Fines

Overdue fines on FSU materials accrue at the rate of 50 cents per day per item; maximum fine per item $10.00.

Fines for FSU materials returned within five days after the due date are waived.

Courtesy reminders are sent via email or US mail service, depending on individual account settings, three days before an item is due. Overdue notices are sent via email or US mail service when items are six days past due.

A $3.00 fine (6 days x 50 cents) is charged per overdue item returned on the 6th day after the due date.

Fines on overdue recalled items owned by FSU accrue at the rate of $1.50 per day per item, maximum fine $30.00. (For more information about recalls, see the tab called "Circulation Policies".)

Fines are payable by cash or check at the Circulation Desk in the Lewis J. Ort Library Monday- Friday from 7:30 AM-5:00 PM.

Checks should be made payable to Frostburg State University.

Please note: We no longer accept foreign checks or money orders as payment.

Checks may also be remitted by mail to Lewis J. Ort Library, 1 Susan Eisel Drive, Frostburg State University, Frostburg, MD 21532.

Fines for FSU materials not paid within 30 days are referred to the FSU Office of University & Student Billing for collection, and a service charge of $15.00 is added.

Once an account has been forwarded to the FSU Office of University & Student Billing, remittance must be made to that department.

A student's registration, diploma, and transcripts may be withheld if payment is not made to the FSU Office of University & Student Billing.

Accounts not satisfied at the FSU Office of University & Student Billing will be forwarded to a collection agency.

Lost Items:

Items that are 21 days overdue are considered lost.

A notice is automatically generated by the Circulation system (sent to the patron via US mail) charging the maximum overdue fine for the item as well as the replacement cost.

Replacement costs for FSU materials are determined by the format/ and or subject matter of the materials and may vary from $15.00 to $1,000.00.

The standard replacement cost charged for an FSU book from the general collection is $60.00.

Replacement costs and accompanying fines for lost materials may be paid by cash or check at the Circulation Desk in the Lewis J. Ort Library Monday- Friday, 7:30 AM-5:00 PM.

Checks should be made payable to Frostburg State University.

Please note: We no longer accept foreign checks or money orders as payment.

Payment by check may be mailed to the Lewis J. Ort Library, 1 Stadium Drive, Frostburg State University, Frostburg, MD 21532.

Accounts not satisfied within 30 days from the date of the Lost Book Notice will be referred to the FSU Office of University & Student Billing for collection, and an additional $15.00 service charge will be added.

Once a patron's account has been forwarded to the FSU Office of University & Student Billing, remittance must be made to that department, and can no longer be accepted at the library.

A student's registration, diploma, and transcripts may be withheld if payment is not made to the FSU Office of University & Student Billing.

Accounts not satisfied at the FSU Office of University & Student Billing will be forwarded to a collection agency.

If lost materials owned by Ort Library are returned in satisfactory condition prior to the account being referred to a collection agency, the replacement cost only will be credited.  For those transactions already referred to the FSU Office of University & Student Billing, an adjustment to waive the replacement cost only will be forwarded to that office.  All other fees (overdue fines and service charges if applicable) must still be paid by the borrower and are subject to being referred to a collection agency if not satisfied at the FSU Office of University & Student Billing.
