Dr. David M. Gillespie Special Collections: Newspapers

Houses materials about the region's history, geology, social and cultural events, and people as well as the history of Frostburg State University. Material written by students, staff, faculty, and area residents.

Using Newspaper Sources

Newspapers in Special Collections are the original news print.  Many of the titles are no longer being published.  The exception is the series of years when the Oakland Republican was not microfilmed.  If you do not see the years you need, please consult the microfilm collection.

Information found in these newspapers is not indexed.  It is best if one has a month, day, and year in hand before searching.  Much can be learned from reading the newspapers.  They are an excellent resource for genealogy (see Genealogy LibGuide for more information).
