Instruction and Consultation Requests

About Library Instruction

Decorative - Lightbulb in thought bubble

A library instruction session for your students can complement your course outlines, syllabi, outcomes, and specific research assignments.  Teaching librarians offer enhanced and customized instruction sessions based on your specific FSU course needs at any undergraduate or graduate level.

Our offerings include:

  • Hands-on search strategy sessions of SearchCat, the library catalog, Web sources, or powerful proprietary research databases built around the parameters of your course, discipline, or specific  research assignments in our instruction classroom with big-screen monitors projection and 32 available chromebook computers;
  • Guided follow-up sessions:  Sometimes a single 50 or 75-minute session for you class in the library isn't quite enough time to reinforce the research learning skills you want your students to master! Follow-up and multiple instruction sessions are welcome;
  • Information literacy/fluency tips on how to locate and evaluate relevant sources, document/cite them properly, and avoid plagiarism;
  • Synchronous or asynchronous instruction sessions for your classes via the Cisco Webex virtual learning tool for your online Canvas classroom;
  • Scheduled individual consultations with students and faculty of approximately 30 minutes of undivided attention from a research librarian, focused strictly on the information information need or research topic.
  • Guidance with the ever-evolving online library research environment.

Scheduling An Instruction Session

Decorative - Calendar

It's easy to schedule a session using our library instruction request form, but please don't wait until all the best spots on the library instruction calendar are taken!  If you prefer a specific instruction librarian, feel free to request one of us in the free-form class assignment note field at the bottom of the form. In any case, please let us know how many students to expect, so that we'll have the proper amount of resources on hand when you arrive.

If you prefer a more personal touch when scheduling classes, feel free to email Molly Barra, Coordinator of Library Instruction at mmbarra@frostburg.edu (phone ext. 4883).
