Finding Aid
This web guide is a finding aid for PHIL 409 students to locate/access primary texts by a neglected woman philosopher from before the twentieth century (or another non-traditional philosopher from before the twentieth century) that deserves study. Tools for primary text location include:
- SearchCat: The one-stop searching place for books and other materials that reside in the FSU Library's collections, including access to print books throughout the library consortium of University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI);
- Request an Item: A feature in SearchCat that lets you request books that the FSU library does not own from other USMAI libraries. These requested books usually arrive within 3 business days. You must sign into SearchCat using your FSU username and password to use this feature;
- Interlibrary Loan (ILL): A function which allows you to request print books that are not owned by the FSU library or any of the other USMAI libraries. ILL requests can be submitted through SearchCat, but users must self-register for the ILL system in advance here. Physical books coming from libraries outside the USMAI library system can take up to 2 weeks to arrive at FSU, though typically we receive them in 6-7 days. Materials are borrowed from all over the United States!
Alternative web tools to locate primary texts are listed in this guide, too!
