Interlibrary Loan

Book or Article Not Available?

If FSU does not have access to your article, or if your book is not available from any USMAI campus, don't give up!

Our Interlibrary Loan staff will check for other libraries who are willing to loan you the item.

How Long Does It Take?

The short answer: it depends... on the format, the lending library, and the shipping method.

PHYSICAL ITEMS FROM WITHIN THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF MARYLAND LIBRARIES:

Physical Items (books/DVD's) coming from one of our consortium partner libraries in the University System of Maryland typically arrive within 3-5 business days. There are some time periods during the year when shipping may be slower, such as around holidays.

PHYSICAL ITEMS FROM OUTSIDE THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF MARYLAND LIBRARIES:

Physical items (books/DVD's) coming from libraries outside of our consortium can take up to 2 weeks to arrive at FSU, though usually we receive them within a week. We cannot expedite this process, it is dependent upon how quickly the lending library is able to fill and ship a request. We borrow materials from all over the United States.

DIGITAL REQUESTS:

Digital items (articles, book chapters, ebooks not owned by FSU) are typically processed and filled within 24 hours, not including weekends. There are some exceptions when scans may take longer if a library is closed temporarily or if the item requested is rare or in poor shape and requires special processes to digitize.
