Before you start your serious research, you might need to just get an overview of your topic so that you understand it better. Look for encyclopedias and other resources to help you get a better understanding of your subject, and maybe even some ideas for your keywords for searching!
You may also find background or reference resources when searching in SearchCat. After you perform a search on a simple topic as in the image below, you may have an "about the topic" appear at the top of your search results. You also may look under publication type under the refine your results options and select Reference Entries. This will show sources such as encyclopedia articles on your topic.
