Ort Library Services During COVID-19 Response

Due Dates, Fines, Returns, ILL

Due Dates:

  • FSU Library materials are now being circulated normally with a semester due date for most items.
    • Not all items are granted the semester due date. DVD's are still 7-day loans.
    • To check the due date of an item please log into My Account and go to "Items borrowed/renewals" to check the status of the due date and renew items as needed
  • If you have items from other USMAI libraries, log into My Account and go to "Items borrowed/renewals" to check the status of the due date and renew items from other USMAI libraries as needed.
  • If you are not able to renew your materials online through MyAccount, please contact Amanda Bena, Access Services Librarian, at albena@frostburg.edu.

Fines and Late Fees:

  • There are no fines or late fees at this time. If you have any questions about library charges, please contact Amanda Bena, Access Services Librarian, at albena@frostburg.edu.

Book Returns:

  • Book returns are open!
  • Two locations: (1) Next to the main entrance doors set into the windows; (2) Drive-up free standing return box behind the building at the loading dock

Interlibrary Loan (ILL):

  • We can request renewals for current interlibrary loans that are with our patrons. Given the circumstances, most libraries are granting renewals and due date extensions, but we cannot guarantee it in every case.
  • Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to continue placing interlibrary loan requests via ILLiad. Library staff are currently able to fulfill requests for all material types (including print books and other physical items), though some physical items may be difficult to obtain.
  • Please contact ill@frostburg.edu for renewal requests, questions about your ILL account, or assistance with placing a request.

Reserves

The Ort Library is pleased to be able to reinstate our physical course reserves service for the 2021-2022 academic year. If you are interested in placing physical materials on reserve for your courses, please review the information below before bringing or requesting any materials to the Main Desk.

All materials (regardless of format) may only be placed on reserve for one semester at a time in order to comply with U.S. copyright law and vendor licensing agreements. Items must be removed at the end of each term, even if you plan to use them again in future terms. Library staff will process removals at the end of each term and contact faculty members to arrange returns of any personal items.

We require a minimum of 48 hours (2 working days) to process reserves items. Reserve materials must be retrieved, cataloged, labeled, and processed into the Reserves module before being available for students to use. Thank you for understanding and planning accordingly.

Items will not be cleaned or quarantined after use. Students and faculty assume any risk associated with short term loans being shared between patrons.

We strongly encourage faculty to consider using electronic resources over print materials whenever possible.Electronic resources can be embedded directly in your Canvas course and are more accessible to students than physical items. We offer a number of tutorials on accessing e-books and journal articles online, as well as instructions for both linking to or embedding resources into your Canvas course. Librarians are happy to help with any part of this process and can be reached via email at LibRef@frostburg.edu for additional assistance or questions.

Instructions for Placing Physical Items on Reserve

  1. Read and review our Library Course Reserves page.
  2. Complete Request Form for Library Course Reserves Materials (available online as a PDF or at the Main Desk).
  3. Bring completed request form to the Library’s Main Desk.
    • If placing a personal copy of an item on reserve, please have both the item and the request form with you.
    • If placing a library copy of an item on reserve, all we need is the completed form. Library staff will retrieve the item from the collections for you.
  4. Library staff will notify you via email when your item is available for students to borrow.

More library services and resources for faculty are listed on our Faculty Services page. Please contact LibRef@frostburg.edu for additional information and assistance.
